Essentials of Thrivability

Using the principles of nature to make organisations forces for good

You’ve seen the IPCC report. You’ve seen the wildfires and floods. You know some big changes are needed. And that every organisation on the planet should have these changes as a top priority.  But ‘business as usual’ has powerful inertia.

So how do we bridge the gap between how we’re working now and what is really needed in the world?  And is it possible to do that with joy, engagement, and excitement?

In this course, we explore key mindsets, practices, and questions needed to act at the appropriate scale to address the challenges facing our world.

The fundamental question in Thrivability is, as Thrivability author Michelle Holliday puts it, 'What would be different in our organisations if we really wanted life on the planet to thrive?".

We give you the essentials to start bringing that question, in a holistic way, to your department and/or organisation.

Who is this course for

This course is for those intermediate to advanced in their careers. You know what ‘business-as-usual’ looks like and you are ready to push the boundaries to make meaningful change that addresses environmental and social issues.

You may be:

  • a manager who wants to be a catalyst for positive change
  • in a sustainability or design role and want to have meaningful conversations that expand and deepen engagement about ecological and social responsibility
  • a professional looking for the tools to make decisions that integrate business sense with responsibility to the planet and society.

What to expect

In this course, you’ll experience a mixture of two ways of learning:

  • Self-paced learning through 2-hours of bite-sized videos as well as activities you can do on your own to integrate and reinforce your learning.
  • A 90-minute live, online, and interactive session combining principles, practices, case studies, peer discussions and dynamic interactions.

What you will learn

Where you take the learning from this course is up to you. Just as research is a vital process in designing any service, so too is asking great questions, deeply listening for what is needed, and co-creating solutions.

To help you start this process, what you’ll learn in this course is:

  • Universal design principles of nature and how they can be applied to help make organisations forces for ecological and social good.
  • Guidelines for becoming a champion of life on Earth (and bringing your boss and organisation along).
  • Powerful questions to help you explore how to align inspired intent with bold, connected, and regenerative action.

The Essentials course is followed by an extended workshop, Application and Practice of Thrivability. Realise the most bold and beautiful impacts by participating in both offerings.
