This course helps researchers and designers to visualise research results and showcase new ideas in more compelling ways, to share with teams, stakeholders and clients.
Storyboarding is a cheap and rapid way to help you and your team visualise existing and envisioned customer experiences, from your customers’ perspectives. Creating storyboards hones your thinking and refines your ideas, while the storyboards themselves help teams and stakeholders align on a shared understanding of your ideas more effectively. In this course, we will cover how to draw storyboards, where to use them, and how to make your storyboards more eye-catching and compelling, through better story construction.
No drawing ability? No problem! You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve by practising the drawing exercises in this course. And if you are already confident with drawing (on paper or tablet), you’ll learn lots of smart shortcuts, plus ways to use storyboarding to think, as well as to show.
Learn how to draw storyboards you’ll be proud to show your team, stakeholders and clients, with 2 hours of engaging instructor content.
Put what you learn into action straight away by creating your own storyboard, step by step. You can use the example scenario included in the course, or a customer/product/service project of your choice.
You can also choose the option to book a 1-hour one-to-one mentoring session with your instructor Ben Crothers.
You can use this session to:
Ben is on a mission to make everyone just as comfortable with the whiteboard as they are with the keyboard. He teaches and coaches teams from a wide range of organisations in design methods, facilitation methods, drawing and visualisation, so that teams can be more creative and focus on the right things.
Previous to Bright Pilots, Ben was Principal Designer at Atlassian, and a design consultant at a variety of agencies and consultancies. His proudest moments include adding over $1million to Leukaemia Foundation’s “World’s Greatest Shave” campaign one year, simply by redesigning an online donation form, and being one of the creators of the much-loved Atlassian Team Playbook.
Speak to Ben about Strategic Design, Systems Design, Service Design, Visualisation, Facilitation, and team culture and dynamics.
This course is for you if you’re after better ways to explain and showcase your ideas, where regular methods like slide presentations and user interface designs aren’t quite enough. You might already be doing some sketching in your job, but you want to increase your ability and confidence.
This course is great for:
If you can draw boxes and arrows, then that’s enough to start with. This course shows you a proven way to approach drawing just about anything, and is adapted to rapid visual storytelling, rather than focusing on detailed realistic drawing.
You will need a black fine-line marker and blank loose-leaf office paper at a minimum. It’s great if you also have a pencil, sticky notes, and one or more colour markers or pencils.
It’s perfectly fine to use a drawing app on a tablet; all of the methods taught in this course work well on any medium.
